About Us
DerDieDas Vision and Purpose
DerDieDas Inc. was founded in 2018 by a group of parents who had a shared vision: to create a little German-speaking island in Melbourne’s south-east, an opportunity for their children to find friends with a similar background, celebrate German traditions together and enjoy all the perks that come with being part of this German-speaking world.
This has become so much more since the organisation's beginnings. Today, DerDieDas stands for a celebration of German culture and language in Melbourne. The monthly German library Bücherwald brings book-lovers and lovers of German "Kaffeeklatsch" ('tea time') of all ages together. We organise community events and age-appropriate German-language learning opportunities for children with a German-speaking background.
DerDieDas Organisation Form
DerDieDas Inc. is a not-for-profit, incorporated organisation run by volunteers. The association is supported by contractors who provide specialised services, such as playgroup facilitation, classroom teaching and admin support.
Being governed by the DerDieDas Association Rules, the elected DerDieDas Committee oversees the strategic and operational aspects of the organisation. If you would like to have a say, we welcome you to become a member of the organisation.
